The world of regenerative farming, its people and places has certainly not taken a backseat in the last few months. In fact I ‘m sure it’s one of the primary antidotes to the current unease, fear and uncertainty of the future. Farmers growing clean, healthy, nutritious food can't help but improve the health of the environments and ecology in which they are grown, and this food then contributes significantly to the health of those who eat it.
A focus on the cause of many illnesses and co-morbidities that make people more susceptible to disease is a place I feel individuals, families, communities, organisations and right now more than ever governments, must be putting their energy. On mainstream media not once have I seen (not that I watch much anyway 🙃) encouragement, advocacy, or support for viewers/consumers to consider improving their individual health, wellness and immunity to mitigate the chances of illness. Wouldn't that be the place to start? Wouldn't nature be the best doctor, and nature's abundance be the best medicine cabinet we all need at this time to restore and improve our mental, spiritual, and physical health?
But what do we hear from government, the main stream medical fraternity and mainstream media about this obvious, cheap and accessible opportunity for good health…………(crickets🦗🦗🦗)……
And on a brighter note🌞 - I'm confident and optimistic about the future. As people's understanding of nature and her generosity, and their connection with self develops, then so too will the focus on agriculture continue to shine bright on the landscape of solutions and it's potential to contribute positively to so many of the world's ‘problems’.
What are you doing to create the future you want for your friends and family?

PODCAST 🎧🎧
We're on the home straight now 💪 and before calling final orders on Season 4, we have some great interviews lined up for you. I can’t believe that Season 4 is almost in the bag, wow!
For anyone who hasn’t had time to listen to this week’s episode w/ Andy Carbone, it's a cracker and well worth a listen. You can download & listen to the episode here .... Next week, it’s the turn of Gabrielle Chan who I managed to snatch an interview with recently. Gabrielle is hot property right now & so it was a great privilege to have had the opportunity to chat with her. Not only has she recently released her latest book ‘ Why you Should Give a Fuck about Farming’ but, she is also doing fantastic and tireless work as editor for The Guardian's Rural Network. Gabrielle is an authoritative thinker and commentator on rural issues and we had a fabulous yarn. I'd strongly recommend you tune in next Tuesday, 23rd November for Gabrielle's interview, it's one not to miss!
Another lady who is working tirelessly on our behalf, advocating on a range of important issues is Tammi Jonas. Tammi who featured on the podcast earlier this season, is joining me for this month’s 'Grab A Cuppa' webinar which is run exclusively for our Patreon members.
For anyone who is dying to ask Tami a question be it about food ethics, CSA's, the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance, oh the list goes on and on!! .. then join our Patreon community NOW and grab your spot at next Wednesday's 'Grab A Cuppa' -24th November @8 PM AEDT.
NOVEMBER FOCUS 🌾🌱🥜
With so many 'topical' goings on at present I've gone virtual for this month's focus piece! Grab a chair ( & maybe your lunch too 🤣) and settle in... I yarn cows, climate change, farming practices & management and much more!
HANAMINNO UPDATE 🐖🐄🤠
The season continues to give and keep giving, another 5 inches of rain fell in the last 10 days and it looks like a warm wet beginning of summer ahead.
Calf marking, lamb shearing tree planting and preparation for fencing of those trees has kept us very busy throughout spring. It's also the time of year to mate our cows and heifers. We've bought 6 new bulls this year and paid twice as much 💰 for them as we ever have before! Which is a reflection on the very buoyant cattle market and industry. Our intention for our cattle production heard is too develop a well muscled, early maturing composite breeding herd with a Shorthorn breed foundation, well suited to the grass fed beef market.
We are also developing a similar composite breed sheep flock next year to meet the growing demand for high quality grass fed lamb. We are using Kelso rams to do so, sourced from David Alexander of Coota Kelso. David has one of only a few Kelso studs in Australia and happens to be Jim our overseer's dad too !
One of our challenges this season will be how to best utilize the significant quantity of pasture that the good season has produced. Running our cattle through paddocks to open them up for our sheep mobs to graze once the pasture has recovered is our current strategy.
We also will progress construction of contour banks to develop our Natural Sequence Farming practices, hopefully using the skills and experience learnt from Peter and Stuart Andrews. Tarwyn Park Training ran a workshop here at Hannaminno earlier this year.
We are yet to complete this year's planting of native tree seedlings in areas that were cleared very heavily many many years ago, and our intention is to restore habitat in these areas to provide our stock with all year round weather protection. We are collaborating with Gallagher Westonfence to construct the tree line fences in these areas, and look forward to hosting a demonstration field day in conjunction with Boorowa Community Landcare Group in autumn 2022.
